Sneak Peek

Shhh…Here’s a sneak peek at the artwork that is on Pepe’s art table right now.

Phoenix Comicon over and out

Thursday’s preview night was full of excitement and enthusiasm as the doors opened to start the 3 1/2 day show. There was a continuous flow of people looking to see what each exhibitor had to offer the convention crowd.

Friday started later and went later. The day went by fast. I always enjoy the people who stop by the table and chat while enjoying the artwork and merchandise on display for them. My neighbor to the left of me was Mike Serensen who makes Steampunk props and costume accessories. He is a very gifted craftsman. My neighbor to the right of me was Jeff of the comic series Lackluster.

Saturday and Sunday brought the welcome return of con attendees I had the pleasure of meeting last year back to my table for a visit this year. I remember each one of them. They stopped by to see what I had new for the con this year. While they were there I shared with them completed pages for the up coming Tales of Blood & Fire issue #1. I explained the new technique I was using to produce the artwork. The reaction to the finished pages as awesome!

Saturday was met with quite the surprise as Mr. Lavar Burton walked by our table. While he passed by our table we were able to get his attention and give him our #0 issue. Mr. Burton was very down to earth, friendly, polite and respectful as he took time to shake our hands and speak to us for a moment before he went to lunch. While he was there he mentioned he was working on his own comic book for Dark Horse. We were invited to stop by his table to pick up a picture of him later after lunch. When we got to his table, once again a friendly hand shake and a thank you for the comic we had given him. He autographed a picture for the both of us. Thank you Lavar for your kindness.

My table was so busy, that I couldn’t make my way around the whole convention floor. But the few exhibitors, comic creators, writers and artist, I was able to met are all talented people. The costumes this year were great!

As the convention drew to an end, it ended in cheers! It was no time to head back to the California desert I call home.

Phoenix Comicon was a BLAST!!! A huge thank you to all of you who stopped by our table, your support is appreciated!!! Look forward to next years show!!!

Free Comic Book Day was a blast

What an important event to be part of. When I was younger I didn’t like reading. When I discovered comic books that all changed. Reading with pictures attached with words helped me develop my imagination. There was always a word in an issue I was reading, that I would have to ask my mother what that word meant. Trying to figure out what a words definition was helped to develop my vocabulary by leaps and bounds. From comics I went on to eventually read anything and every thing especially novels.

When I pulled into the driveway to Bases Cards & Comics there was already people waiting to get in. While set up was taking place, people kept trying to come in and get their free comics. They eagerly waited for the clock to reach 10 am. When the doors opened up the line went out the door from the time the doors opened until I left at 4 pm with customers still coming. After customers choose their free comics they wandered around the shop looking at all the cards, toys, poster and comics the shop has for sale. At my table I had prints, comics, and sketch cards available for sell. My portfolio was also on display for customer to get a chance to see original art.

The best part of the day was talking with the customer who had question about making their own comic to life. The young people I talked to are very impressive, they already have their characters developed and a story to go with them. Other ones drew their own characters. It’s awesome for them to see a person living community doing what they want to do. It makes it more believable.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table for a chat. I appreciate the support.

A big thank you to the Bases Cards & Comics staff; Rob, Janice and James for letting me participate at this special event. I look forward to next year.

Anaheim Comic Con 2010 over and out

Great neighbors always make conventions go by fast. My neighbor to the left of me was fellow comic creator, artist/writer and friend Jason Martin of Super Real Graphics. I had the pleasure of metting Jason last year at Wizard Chicago Comic Con. Jason shared his table with Dan Mendoza of Toxic Candie . My neighbor to the right of me was John & Shelagh Lustig of the web comic Last Kiss.

During the show I met some awesome new exhibitors, comic creators, writers and artist at the show.  All of them are very talented people. It’s always fascinating to see all the different styles of art. On Saturday there was an after hour drink & draw pow wow with fellow creators, writers, artist, and radio hosts. The theme of the night was pirates. Thanks to Lace Sawyer for the invite and hospitality.

Saturday also brought a surprise visit by Sean Galloway who stopped by to say hi and see how thing were going. Sean always has a way of motivating and inspiring me. Always great to see Sean.

One of my favorite parts of con’s are all the great costumes. Most people don’t realize how much time and dedication go into making these costumes. I have a deep appreciation for them since I have made some of my own costumes.

Lastly, I  was very pleased, I had some time to make my way over to a few of my favorite artists who have influenced my art style, Mike Mayhew, Arthur Suydam and Tim Bradstreet not just great artists, but awesome down to earth people. I can’t wait to have their original art hanging in my office. While I was making my around the show I stopped by David H. Lawrence (Eric Doyle in Heroes) table for a quick chat. While I was there, I was able to get a picture and share my self-published book with him. He was very friendly and polite. Thanks for the picture David.

Emerald City ComiCon 2010

The last few day have been a blur…

The Convention season officially started for me last weekend at the Emerald City ComiCon in Seattle. This was my first year participating at the Emerald City Comicon and what a great convention it was. The conventions main goal of keeping the focus on the COMICS aspect of the industry is very refreshing.

Walking around the corner to enter the exhibit hall to setup for the ECCC there was already a crowd waiting to get into the con. It’s always great to see the convention crowd buzzing with excitement and anticipation waiting for the doors to open.

Both days of the con were steadily busy with convention goers. A great many people stopped by my table to look at my portfolio, prints, original penciled trading cards, and Tales of Blood & Fire hats, beanies, t-shirts, sketchbook and #0 issue. Thanks to all of you for the support.

I also took the time to stop by and converse with some of my fellow writers, exhibitors and artist friends; Ben Templesmith, Jason Metcalf, Brian Snoddy, Leigh Kellogg, Jason Janicki, Emonic, Rantz, Martini and Brian Randolph. A big THANK YOU!!! goes out to Brain Randolph for his generous hospitality.

Here are some pictures from Seattle… to hold you over until next time!
